Friends of Camp Mintahama proposes to buy portion of old camp ground

A town hall meeting discusses the future of a former Girl Scout property that recently closed.

Girl Scouts of the Missouri Heartland sold the property last February to a local resident.

Friends of Camp Mintahama, a local organization came together this afternoon to talk about a proposal to buy a portion of the land.

The new owner of the site has agreed to sell a portion of land to Friends of Camp Mintahama for a little more than $1 million.

The facility would be owned by Friends of Camp Mintahama and they would allow other local organizations, residents, or youth groups to use

Those in attendance asked questions on how they could raise funds for this project and the safety concerns that go along with it.

Lisa Nelson, Chair of Friends of Camp Mintahama says, “It was very clear from everyone that attended today that they see a need for a non-profit run camp that serves youth and the community. And we would be looking to fill that gap.”

Friends of Camp Mintahama is working towards becoming a non-profit organization.

The group is also trying to plan how to fundraise for a down payment on the land.
