DIAMOND, Mo. — In a battle of state-ranked softball teams on Wednesday, the #4 Diamond Wildcats hosted the #5 Sparta Trojans.

In an intense pitcher’s duel, Diamond shut out the Trojans, 6-0. Wildcats pitcher Madi Bentley threw 17 strikeouts and only one walk.

Kelsey Parrish, Diamond head coach, says, “”I think that was a huge win just because whoever climbs out of our district, I think there’s a good chance they might climb out of theirs. We might match up next game, so that was a huge win. It gives us some confidence going into our district, and we just can’t take anybody lightly.”

Bentley says, “Natalie [Wilks] is a great pitcher, and we knew she was gonna come out strong so it’s just great to see we’re chipping away and we know we can hit a great pitcher. That just makes me feel confident in our journey ahead.”
