Carthage wins Class 5 District 12 title


The Carthage Tigers claim the Class 5 District 12 title after beating Joplin 6-2 in the championship game.

This is Carthage baseball’s first district title since 1993.

The Tigers entered the district tournament as the 6th seed with a 5-16 record. In the opening game on May 12th the Tigers defeated McDonald County 12-0 to advance the semifinals on May 14th. The Tigers would then knock off the 2nd seed, Neosho, 2-0 setting up a match with the Joplin Eagles, who defeated the number one seed Webb City on the same day. Carthage would claim the district title with the 6-2 victory over the Eagles.

Next up for the Carthage Tigers will be a battle with the Class 5 District 11 winner, Kickapoo, in Carthage on May 22nd.
