Work underway to expand kitchen at Joplin Early Childhood Center

Joplin’s Early Childhood Center will be growing in the coming months.

Work is underway to expand the kitchen at the facility. It currently has a warming kitchen but must bring meals over from the larger kitchen facility next door at Irving Elementary. Construction just east of the building will add an extra 600 square feet and upgrade equipment to create stand alone food service.

“We’re bringing more kids into the program, into the building. And so we want to be able to service them on site with their own stand alone kitchen,” says Dave Pettit.

Grant funding is expected to cover most of the $260 thousand dollar price tag. The project is expected to be complete in January.
