When does tall grass become a city nuisance?

News

It’s that time of year when you have to start thinking about cutting your grass. Put it off too long, and you could get in trouble.

Residents in the City of Joplin must trim the yard before it’s 12 inches tall. The city also asks that mowers keep trimmings out of the street to avoid clogging the stormwater sewer system.

If the grass gets higher than a foot, the owner will be notified they’re in violation of city cod – and could have a bill to pay if the city ends up mowing for them.

While a foot tall is considered a nuisance, the standard isn’t the same everywhere. Neosho, Pittsburg, and Miami share the 12 inch rule, but in Carthage, 8 inches is the max.
