Westar Energy crews move closer to restoring power in Southeast Kansas

News

Crews with Westar Energy are getting closer to restoring power to those impacted by Monday night’s storms in Crawford County.

Company representatives say at the height of the storm, there were about 2,800 Crawford County residents without power. By Tuesday morning, they had restored power to three-quarters of those affected. However, as of this morning there were still around 200 people without power, but crews were working to have those repairs finished by the end of Wednesday or early Thursday, weather permitting. They say they’ve faced several challenges, including people driving around barricades where crews are working.

“Vegetation has been a huge issue. Lots of large trees down, taking with it lines and poles. We also have had some issues with continual flooding in some of the low lying areas,” says Kari West, Westar Energy.

West says even though crews have addressed most of the downed lines, they’re still advising you to treat every line as though it could still be energized and leave it alone.
