The city of Vinita unites today in honor of its 82nd annual Will Rogers Memorial Rodeo Parade.

Executive Director of the Vinita Area Chamber of Commerce Monica Bagwell says the parade was named in honor of Will Rogers, who was a Vinita native. She says Rogers always wanted the city to have a parade and the year they finally launched it was the year he died, so they have continued to hold it in remembrance of him. Bagwell says the parade kicks off rodeo week and includes more than 100 participants marching on Historic Route 66.

“I’ve been at the chamber for about a year and just seeing all the businesses come together and not only join together in the parade, but afterwards we are all going to All Settlers Day and they’ve donated food and door prizes. It’s just been for me it’s been a great experience seeing everybody come together,” says Monica Bagwell.

The All Settler’s Day Reunion is the city of Vinita’s tradition that is expected to gather about 1000 individuals in the area for what they call an afternoon of friendship.
