UPDATE: Boil order is lifted for City of Neosho

News

UPDATE:

The City of Neosho Public Works Department has received the water sample quality test results back. All 4 samples have tested negative for any harmful contaminants.

As of 1:15 pm, Saturday- March 9th, the boil advisory is lifted along with the water conservation recommendations.

As of 1:00 pm today (Saturday) both affected towers are over half full. Water pressures should be coming close to normal operation, if not already. Our water plant will be working 24hrs a day in 12 hr shifts until towers are full.

Previous story:

The City of Neosho is issuing a mandatory water conservation notice. All nonessential water use is prohibited at this time.

This mandatory water conservation is the result of a transmission line leak that has decreased level of water in towers.

According to Leland Butcher, Neosho City Manager, this occurred sometime early yesterday. He told us that crews worked even through the night to repair this break.

Historically Butcher said this is just something that happens when the lines are old. This particular line was laid in 1942.

Public Works Department crew’s are working to resolve this issue as quickly as they can. They thank you for your patience.

Businesses being asked to limit sales or close.

Neosho area facilities affected by the water leak – if you are a restaurant with little or no water pressure, you are not to operate, as you will not be able to wash hands and perform other tasks properly. If you operate or work in retail, such as grocery & convenient stores, you are limited to sales only. No deli or food preparation allowed until the water issue is resolved. Please contact the Environmental department if you have further questions at (417) 451-3743 Ext 3.

Original Problem Started Yesterday:

Public Works Department has been working since 7 am this morning on a major leak on the 20” transmission line. The leak has been repaired at this point. Water levels in one of our water towers may have dropped during this leak, resulting in a decrease of water pressure in some areas. We are currently recharging the lines and will resume pumping to the water towers at approximately 9:15-9:30 this evening and pressure should return to normal for all customers at that time.

Thank you for your patience. PWD Crews will remain on scene until project is completed and pressure is restored.

As of 4 am update: Public Works Department has opened up additional valves to help replenish the water supply to the affected areas experiencing low pressure. It is taking longer than expected to refill this area. Thank you for your patience.
