Update: Arrest made after shooting in Baxter Springs

One person is injured and another behind bars after shots were fired in Baxter Springs last night. 

Around 8 p.m., police arrived at the residence near 5th and Park where one person had been injured. One of the suspects involved, Charles Applegate, 39, was taken into custody just after 9 p.m. Applegate also had warrants out of Cherokee County and is being held with no bond.

Samuel Reffett fled the scene and police are still searching for him as a second suspect. Eric Ashley was taken to a local hospital, where he was treated for head injuries from a blunt object. 

Kansas Highway Patrol, Cherokee County Sheriff’s deputies, and the Baxter Springs Police all helped work the scene Wednesday night.
