Two workers have passed away after they were injured at Westar’s Jeffrey Energy Center located in Pottawatomie County.

Gina Penzig, a spokesperson from Westar Energy, which owns and operates the plant, confirmed Monday the two workers who were severely burned Sunday morning in an incident there have passed away.

She said both of the workers were life-flighted to The University of Kansas Hospital.

“Our first priority is our injured people, their families and all plant personnel,” John Bridson, senior vice president generation, said. “Our Jeffrey Energy Center team is like an extended family, and we want to ensure everyone at the plant feels and is safe.”

Penzig said the circumstances of the incident are under review.
