Two people are behind bars after investigators say one of them pointed a weapon at a sheriff’s deputy during a traffic stop.
Deputies with the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office have arrested Ruben Longoria, 26, of Phoenix, Arizona and Derek Gallegos, 23 of Los Lemas, New Mexico. Ruben is being charged with driving while suspended, while Gallegos has been arrested for first degree assault on a law enforcement officer. The incident began around 4:30 PM Friday, when a Jasper county sheriff’s deputy noticed a vehicle on the roadside near the intersection of I-44 and Prigmor. Deputies say as they checked on the vehicle, the two male occupants appeared to become “very nervous.” One of the men then exited the vehicle, brandished a firearm towards a deputy and fled. The highway was temporarily shutdown for a short time due to the incident. Investigators say no one was injured during the course of the events.
