Spiva Center for the Arts starts a project to provide free art to the community

If you’re planning to spend some time in Downtown Joplin this week, you may walk away with some free artwork.

Spiva Center for the Arts is sponsoring an “Art Abandonment” project. They’re encouraging artists to seal small pieces of art in plastic bags and leave them in public spaces downtown. The project includes a tag telling the new owner about the project.

“It could be literally anything. It could be jewelry, it could be ceramics. It could be a painting or anything,” says Eden Elliott, Spiva Center for the Arts.

Spiva is tying the launch of the “Art Abandonment” project to Third Thursday, encouraging those taking part to leave art in Downtown Joplin on Thursday.
