Shawnee Tribe Cultural Center is holding first art market

The newly opened Shawnee Tribe Cultural Center is holding its first art market.

Artists from the Four State area will be featured displaying a variety of Native American artwork. The event is scheduled for Saturday, December 8th from 10 am to 5 pm at the Cultural Center.

However, they are hoping non-Native American vendors would consider participating as well. Ultimately they are just hoping to support local artists.

“Everything is handmade and usually the type of bead work and that information is passed down from generation to generation so really your capturing a lot of cultural information in these object. Their not just pretty and functional, but there’s a lot of meaning behind it,” says Marnie Leist, Director Shawnee Tribe Cultural Center.

The Cultural Center is still looking for vendors to participate and the fee is $40 dollars. If you are interested you can contact the Cultural Center at 918-544-6722.
