Monday night’s severe weather damages several buildings at a southwest Missouri airport.
Lamar city administrator Russ Worsley says around 11:30 PM strong winds from a thunderstorm destroyed six hangars at the city airport, and damaged another six. Worsley says those facilities comprise most of the aircraft storage space at the Lamar airport. He says damage to planes in the hangars ranges from minor to major, and at least one may be a total loss. Worsley says there had been discussions about replacing the hangers, and this will have a big impact on those talks.
“Long term we were going to build new hangers and take these down, but unfortunately our timetable has been sped up just a little bit,” Worsley says.
Worsley says the city will be in contact with their insurance provider to see what the next steps are. He says work done today was to prepare the facility for another potential round of storms Tuesday evening.
