The list of candidates running for city council and school boards in the area have been set after the filing period ends for the April elections.
Carl Junction Board of Aldermen
Four seats are open on the Carl Junction Board of Aldermen, and the position of mayor is up for grabs as well. Mayor Mark Powers has filed for reelection and all incumbents for the four seats are running unopposed. The board incumbents that have filed for an open seat are LaDonna Allen, Mark Satterlee, Richard Zaccardelli, and Rick Flinn.
Carl Junction School Board
The school board has two open seats in this upcoming election, however, three candidates are campaigning for the seats. Larry R. Cowger currently holds one seat, and he has filed for reelection. Challenging Cowger will be Terra Higgins and Robert Hays.
Carthage School Board
Justin Baucom and Niki Cloud’s school board seats are up for election this year, but both will be running for another term. They are challenged by Wayne Jones, Jorge Alvarado, and Craig Diggs.
Carthage City Council
Five city ward seats are up for grabs in this upcoming April election. Ceri Otero, James Harrison, and David Armstrong are all running unopposed for a two-year term in their respective wards. Raymond West is running unopposed as well in his bid for Ward 2. Alan Snow is being challenged by Dawn Denniston for Ward 4. Also, a Ed Barlow, T.J. Teed, and Brenna Barksdale will run for Ward 5.
Joplin School Board
Two seats on the Joplin School Board are up for grabs this April. Current board members, Sharrock Dermott and Jennifer Martucci, have both filed for the seats. Joplin physician, Michael Joseph, has also thrown in his bid for the three year term.
Neosho School Board
Four candidates have filed for two open seats on the Neosho School Board. Current board members, Jonathan Russell and Stuart Puckett, will be challenged by David Steele and Kevin Butler.
Neosho City Council
Two three-year term seats will be up for election on the Neosho City Council this year. William Doubek will face of with Robb Birch and Angela Thomas this April.
Webb City School Board
School board seats held by Kevin Crane and Dan McGrew are now open, and both have filed for reelection. Crane and McGrew are challenged by Stephen Crane, Aaron Rice, and Philip Powell.
Webb City Council
Five candidates have planned to race for seats on the Webb City Council this year. Joshua Hensley, Gina Monson, Georgia Antillon, Jonathan Shull, and Debbie Darby have all filed for open seats on the council.
