Salvation Army Joplin restarts financial assistance 2011 tornado victims

The Salvation Army Joplin is restarting financial assistance for victims of the 2011 tornado.

The organization received $250 thousand dollars to help people who have been struggling. A case manager is now also on site at Salvation Army Joplin to help with applications during the process.

It’s been 5 years since assistance was stopped for those affected. Now the Salvation Army is looking to help people who have had long-term problems that were caused by the tornado.

“We have had over 20 families who have walked through our door that said we are still struggling, and it may be ‘I’m struggling to pay my rent… maybe I’m just struggling to get back up on my feet financially.’ We’ve had people contact us who have had medical issues after the tornado,” says Beckie Stearns, Salvation Army Joplin.

Applications will start being taken next Monday, October 29th. Anyone wishing to apply for assistance should call (417) 624-4528 extension 108.
