Sales tax goes into effect in Nevada

NEVADA, Mo. — Shoppers in Nevada are also spending a little bit more at the cash register.

A new half cent sales tax goes into effect today, targeted at supporting the Nevada Regional Medical Center.

Voters approved the increase last August.

It was supposed to take effect on January first, but was delayed three months.

Revenue will help cover a yearly bond payment of one and a half million dollars during the next 12 years.
