The Bourbon County Sheriff is clarifying information to county commissioners after rumors spread that there is no funding left to finance the construction of the new jail.
Sheriff Bill Martin presented a financial analysis that showed the funding for the jail. Money is being collected through the sales tax which is set at four tenths of a cent. While there is more money being collected than initially projected, the rate for the sales tax has not changed.
“We are generating enough money, revenue to either pay off the jail sooner, refurbish or remodel the old jail, so that space could be used for offices or other needs, and then the third option is to help assist in the operation of the new facility,” says Bill Martin.
The jail was set to open last year, but construction problems have pushed back the date. Sheriff Martin cannot confirm the exact move-in date into the new jail, but says it will be very soon.
