Before the Joplin City Council meeting, several former and current city officals along with Missouri legislators gathered to say kind words about Richard.
Joplin Mayor Gary Shaw also presented a proclamation and a key to the city for his 30 years of service.
Richard says he is humbled by the gesture that he has given to so many people during his service.
Ron Richard says, “Well I gave a number of those keys and proclamations when I was mayor and that’s been 25 years ago. It is the highest honor awarded to a citizen in the City of Joplin and it means something to everybody or it should, and it does to me.”
Richard says he is not stopping anytime soon. He is currently talking to Governor Parson about working with him in future projects. He’s also working on the Bicentinial Committee for the 200th anniversary of the state.
