A fixture in Joplin education is finally getting her due and calling it a career.
Kay Johnson is wrapping up a quarter of a century of service with joplin schools at the end of the school year. Most of it at Kelsey Norman Elementary.
Today she was surprised by students, faculty, and staff as the support staff of the year for the entire joplin school district.
Her family was in attendance and kept it a secret.
“It’s just unbelievable to be recognized by the whole district I think, I know everyone feels about me, they tell me, all the kids, I get all the hugs and everything so I know I’m loved at Kelsey Norman, but to be recognized by your peers is quite a different level,” says Johnson.
Johnson says all of her children were educated at Kelsey Norman and she’ll even have a grand child starting there next year.
