The Red Cross was in Carl Junction to help the victims from Wednesday night’s storms.
The organization got in early to help survey the destruction in the area and provide families with the resources they need. They help with donating items like water, garbage bags and other clean up materials. Members of the Red Cross say they are surprised to see how much of the community stepped up to help.
“We were just surprised when we got in here how many people are already digging out and tarping, you know, cutting down trees. Everybody from the community has just come out to help, it’s impressive,” says Jackie Kennedy, Red Cross.
The Red Cross is also checking for homes that are a total loss, and for now they have an estimate of six. They say as they continue their assessment, they are looking into donating some funds to families to get them a new home.
