Southeast Kansas basketball players take a break from the court to support local children battling illnesses.
Pittsburg State University’s Women’s Basketball Team held a car wash to benefit Children’s Miracle Network.
All proceeds go towards getting a banner to hang inside of Sam’s Club for their annual fundraiser.
Players say they’ve done this for the past three years and enjoy the chance to give back to the communities who cheer them on all season.
“I personally love it, like I love getting opportunities like this to volunteer in our community and it’s just such a great organization so I love being a part of it and helping,” says player Athena Alvarado.
“It’s awesome, I mean it’s just like our community gives us a lot, like cheering on our games and stuff so it’s like the minimum thing that we can do for them,” says another player, Marina Bauza.
Freeman Health System in Joplin is a partner with the Children’s Miracle Network and treats local kids fighting life-threatening illnesses.
