A Southeast Kansas man is behind bars after allegedly kidnapping and assaulting a woman in his home.

Around 6:20 on Thursday night, Pittsburg officers responded to the 100 block of south Walnut Street. The caller said a woman had come to his home, and claimed she held against her will and assaulted by someone living next door.

The suspect would not answer the door when officers tried to confront him. Eventually, a special response and crisis team obtained a search warrant. By 9:30 p.m., authorities had to forcibly enter the home, where they found the suspect hiding in the home.

Joseph Levi McClure, 28, of Pittsburg was taken into custody. He faces charges of aggravated assault, kidnapping, criminal threat and battery. McClure is in the Crawford County Jail on a $50,000 bond.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call Pittsburg Police at 620-231-TIPS.
