At last night’s city commission meeting, city leaders approved the upgrade to the Fourth Street Bridge.
The decision was made in an effort to revamp the aging bridge as well as make it more accessible to pedestrians. Public works director Cameron Alden says upon its completion, the bridge will show just another way Pittsburg is working to improve the city.
“This is definitely a need there. There’s no real good pedestrian access across there, I think it was created after the bridge was done, so it wasn’t really a design aspect of it, and the lanes narrow up as you go across that bridge,” says Cameron Alden.
At the moment, the Kansas Department of Transportation is in the process of finishing up design details. The project is slated to be bid out in the fall of this year.
