A community grant awarded to the Pittsburg Fire Department will help keep people safe this upcoming winter.
The department has been award a $25 hundred dollar Walmart community grant to provide 125 battery-operated carbon monoxide detectors for Pittsburg residents. Firefighters in the city responded to 23 CO incidents from August 2017 to August 2018.
And, nationwide, the Centers for Disease Control states 400 deaths in 2015 alone were caused by carbon monoxide poisoning. The detectors will be provided to people living in Pittsburg free of charge and can be picked up at the department, while supplies last.
