Pittsburg city commission moves vacant lot into city land bank

Pittsburg city commissioners move a vacant downtown lot into the city’s land bank.

This lot, on Fifth Street between Broadway and Pine has been vacant since April of this year. The building that did occupy it was torn down earlier this year due to safety concerns.

Pittsburg city manager Daron Hall says the business that submitted the winning bid to develop that lot withdrew earlier this year. When that happened, it was offered to a business neighboring the vacant lot. Hall says they declined to purchase the lot at this time.

“Fortunately we have a land bank, a good asset to fall back on, we’ve put it in the land bank. It’s one of the many properties that the city now owns. Anybody that’s interested in developing it can contact us, and we’d be happy to listen to their ideas,” says Hall.

Hall says he doesn’t expect the property to be in the land bank for long.
