Pittsburg city commissioners have given approval to continuing the business development and innovation services agreement with P.S.U. and the Pittsburg Area Chamber of Commerce.
City leaders say the goal is for the three entities to work together to create and attract new businesses, along with promoting the expansion and growth of already existing businesses. Officials with Pittsburg State University say while this helps grow the city, it also provides opportunities for students.
“It’s a really unique arrangement, as far as we can tell it’s the only one of it’s kind in the country, where a university, a city and a chamber are essentially taking a teamwork approach to growing this community, and it’s really something that we believe could be emulated, among particularly a lot of the smaller and mid-sized communities across the country that have universities in them,” says Shawn Naccarato, Chief Strategy Officer, Pittsburg State University.
This is the third year the city has worked with the Chamber and the second year for working with Pittsburg State University.
