Parsons city leaders hope an investment will pay off for future transportation projects

News

At Monday night’s meeting, city commissioners agreed to pay $30,000 for a cost-benefit analysis that will be a part of a $25 million grant application to the Federal Department of Transportation.

If approved, the funds through the “Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development,” or Build Transportation Discretionary Grant would be used for infrastructure projects on Highway 59 in Parsons, from the Labette Creek Bridge North to near Highway 400. It will likely be several weeks before the grant application is officially filed. City leaders say along with federal funds, they’ll also be seeking out opportunities for funding from the Kansas Department of Transportation.
