Public Schools Week is celebrated nationwide as people recognize the importance of funding education.
The week highlights the impact education leaves on students, parents, and the state.
In the state of Oklahoma, a Parent Legislative Committee has people writing letters to legislators sharing stories about the impact of the educational system.
Quapaw Schools Superintendent David Carriger, supports this initiative and says it’s important for legislators to fund schools with tax and state dollars.
” I think sometimes we tend to take for granted what we have. Public education was something established many many years ago and our founding foudners whenver they decided that education was a priority and we want that to always be a priority for our state.” said David Carriger, Quapaw Schools Superintendent
In the state of Oklahoma, the Education Association is hoping funding will be increased yet again in the classrom by April 1st.
This would coincide with a 2-year package agreed upon last year when the walkout took place.
If it is not, they are looking at a potential rally or similiar activity, but they do not plan on having another walkout.
