Jeremy Floyd defeated Derek Derwin for sheriff during Tuesday night’s election. Derwin has been Ottawa County’s sheriff since the beginning of this year. Floyd will take over on January 1st. He’ll start the transition process next week, training with Derwin for the next month-and-a-half. They will go everything from paperwork, evidence and anything involved with the Sheriff’s Office.
“The favorite part of this is to be able to give back to the community. I was born and raised here and it’s important to me to bring back the pride and bring back the professionalism that we deserve here. And, I want to make the people happy. I’m a people sheriff and that’s what I stand for and that’s what I campaign for. And that’s what I beleive in,” said Ottawa County Sheriff Elect Jeremy Floyd.
Floyd will be the first Republican sheriff in Ottawa since 1942.
