Ottawa County and Delaware County are competing in a special competition hoping to motivate people to give blood.
Starting today and ending tomorrow both counties will be holding blood drives in hopes of benefiting the local area. The challenge bands together local police and fire departments to make the Boots and Badges Community Challenge Blood Drive.
Representatives with the Oklahoma Blood Institute says they are at a low blood supply currently and have an immediate need for O negative blood donors. In Miami and Grove, blood donating will continue today and end August 8th from noon to 6 pm at the Miami Civic Center and Integris Grove Hospital.
“It brings the community together and it brings the fire and the police department together and we enjoy competition and we hope to win this year,” says Miami Fire Chief Robert Wright.
“I just hope everybody gives blood because everybody needs it there’s always accidents and everything else it’s just a needed supply,” says David Dean, a detective with the Miami Police Department.
The winning team for the counties represented will receive a trophy from the Oklahoma Blood Institute.
