Gary “Cat” Johnson had been battling health problems and died today at the age of 58.

Johnson was a star basketball player at Joplin Memorial High School, graduating in 1978.
He was a big part of Memorial’s two state title teams.

Johnson then played college basketball at Oral Roberts University where he scored over 1,000 points.
More recently he was a business owner, running “Cat Johnson’s Taste of the South”.

A friend posted this to his restaraunt’s Facebook this evening.

“It is with tremendous sadness that I must post that Gary ‘Cat’ Johnson has passed away this evening. He passed away while in the hospital in St. Louis.

He was my friend and I am saddened at his passing. I love ya my dear friend, may you find the peace your earthly soul could never really capture and hold.

I will leave this page up for now but will take it down 1 week after the funeral.”
