The National Weather Serivce in Tulsa now confirms damage in Miami was caused by a tornado during Tuesday night’s storms.
NWS staff conducted a survey Thursday and says an EF-1 tornado moved from west of Miami, across town, to the northeast side of the city.
That means winds anywhere from 86 to 110 miles per hour hit the city.
It tossed around tree limbs, damaged several buildings and homes, and caused an extensive power outage throughout parts of the area.
Crews from Miami, the GRDA, the city of Claremore, and the Tahlequah Public Works Authority have been working through Thursday to get power restored in the city.
