Newton Co. could have prescription drug monitoring program

News

Newton County is one step closer to having a prescription drug monitoring program.

The Newton County Health Department Board of Trustees voted to approve an ordinance to join St. Louis County’s program. The ordinance essentially breaks down what the program will do and how Newton County will implement it.

A database will contain a list of what opioid and other over-the-counter drugs were prescribed by pharmacists, so health officials can keep track of doctor shopping. The director of the Newton County Health Department says it will be a couple of months before the program is fully running.
