The ordinance lists violations that can get a license suspended and gives the licensing clerk the ability to suspend or remove a business’ alcohol license if they sell alcohol to a minor. It passed back in November, but the council needed to hear feedback from community members. Tuesday night, the council chambers was packed as several people got up to speak, all in favor of keeping the ordinance.
“I just want to see us as a good community. I don’t want us to be a place to be known to come buy alcohol and there’s not much restrictions on it,” says Neosho Resident Mark Taylor.
The council had some solutions to create a better ordinance to make sure businesses were compliant. However, when members went to vote on a repeal, the measure did not pass.
