National 911 Telecommunicator Week

Telecommunicators are trained to calmly and quickly assess an emergency and notify the correct responding units. They have to multi-task very well in order to type on a computer, speak to someone in need, and dispatch units while they continue to gather information in their ear.
“We always say they’re the hero behind the headset and I truly believe that. It’s a great profession and that’s something that is not recognized very often is that it’s a profession. It’s not just a job. It takes a special person and I really appreciate each and every one of them,” said Sunny Goodwin, Joplin Emergency Communications Manager.
The Joplin Fire Department sent out a message on their Facebook page thanking all the Joplin dispatchers.
