Columbia, Mo- A select group of students at the University of Missouri will soon have the opportunity to receive free tuition. Starting in the fall of 2018, the school will be paying tuition and fees for every student that qualifies for a federal Pell grant. So far, MU is the only Missouri Public College or University offering this form of financial aid to undergraduates.
This grant is only available to in-state students, including transfer students. Most of them are given to students who come from families making less than 30-thousand dollars a year.
The maximum grant awarded this year was just shy of $6,000. The awards are even better for those eligible for the grant and in the MU Honors program. They have the opportunity to have their remaining tuition and fees paid, but the university will also pay for the student’s housing, food, and books.
