Mt. Hope Cemetery and Joplin American Legion make sure veterans have final resting place

A Joplin cemetery will have a very special addition to its yearly Memorial Day observance, honoring the remains of veterans from World Wars I and II.

Mt. Hope Cemetery will inter the ashes of Morris Marion Boyd, Ralph Paul Lane, and Glenn Robert Lake, all of Joplin. The cremated remains of each had been in storage for years in one case since 1975. Since no family members have come forward, Mt. Hope is partnering with Joplin’s American Legion Post 13 to make sure each has a final resting place.

“These guys are special to the history of our area and the country. And we want to do the right thing,” says Travis Boyd, Mt. Hope Cemetery.

The ceremony will take place Monday, May 27 at 10:00 am at the Veteran’s Memorial on the west side of the cemetery.
