More than 40 Jasper students graduate from D.A.R.E. program

5th grade students in one Southwest Missouri school district attend a special graduation ceremony Thursday.

More than 40 students at Jasper Elementary School graduated from the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office D.A.R.E. program.

Students were required to write an essay and answer specific questions from a deputy about drugs and alcohol.

5th grader Emmy Mae Davis says she learned a lot and knows she’ll be saying no to those things when she gets older.

“I’ve learned a lot about drugs and alcohol and what it does to your body. And I didn’t know that before. So that really opened my eyes,” she says.

The program has been running in the district for more than 10 years.
