State Representative Scott Fitzpatrick is the chairman of the House Budget Committee. He says they’re already looking at the governor’s proposals for the budget. Fitzpatrick adds while the committee likely will go with many of the governor’s recommendations, they’ll also be looking for ways to put money back into K-12 education and higher education.

He says while funding for transportation is down in the governor’s budget, overall funding for K-12 education is actually up slightly. Fitzpatrick says funding education is a top priority for him.

“My number-one goal that I stated when I was announced as the new budget chairman was to fully fund the formula– the K-12 Foundation Formula for schools, and if we can do that, we’re going to,” explained Fitzpatrick.

Fitzpatrick says there will be new avenues of funding coming to school districts this year, both from the federal government and other areas.
