Lawmakers say a special House committee will continue to look into an error that’s lead to many Missourians owing money on state tax returns.
State Representative Dirk Deaton sits on a government oversight committee. They met for the second time today continuing to investigate the State Department of Revenue error. The mistake lead to many Missouri workers not withholding enough on personal income taxes in 2018. It left taxpayers on the short end of the stick.
Deaton says the committee has questioned department leaders about the error. They say it was a mistake in the formula due to changes with the federal tax code.
“We feel that the Department of Revenue did not communicate this change, nor did they communicate that they had made this error, and they certainly haven’t taken responsibility for that either at this point,” says State Rep. Dirk Deaton.
Deaton recommends you check with your employer to make sure your W-4 information is correct moving forward.
