MO auditor review shows home and community based services costs increased

Missouri Auditor Nicole Galloway releases the review of home and community based services for disabled and elderly Missourians.

The report reviewed the effectiveness of recent cost-saving measures approved by the legislature. Galloway’s audit found both the cost and the number of participants using home and community based services have increased significantly in recent years.

In 2017, the legislature made changes to the program to reduce the number of participants and control costs. The report says while expenditures did decrease, the budgetary estimates provided resulted in overestimates in cost-saving projects.

Galloway is recommending the State Department of Health and Senior Services develop more accurate budget estimates.
