The Missouri State Highway Patrol has ruled an officer-involved shooting in Joplin in January justified.

According to the state patrol report, Jasper County Deputy Jason Hutchins responded to 901 North Landreth Avenue Back on January 2nd after other officers requested backup for a man with a knife.

The report says deputies were at the home to serve an order of protection to 66 year old Louis C. Miller. Authorities say when they arrived, Miller grabbed a large knife. Deputies repeatedly asked hm to drop it. Instead, he pointed it in their direction and charged at them. Deputy Hutchins fired one shot, striking Miller in the chest.

He later died from his injuries.
