The body of Brooke Robinson has been found four days after being swept into Shoal Creek.
Newton County Sheriff Chris Jennings says Robinson’s body was found before one Thursday afternoon approximately two miles down the creek from where she was last seen. She was located three feet under water hung on some debris.
The 12 year old went missing Monday while on a float trip with her family. Robinson was tubing on Shoal Creek when her tube hit a tree and capsized. She was not wearing a life jacket.
Sheriff Jennings says a lot of agencies worked together on the case.
“I just hope the family is able to get closure at some point. At this point, we go back to our everyday work and a lot of equipment was broken, we have to get that all fixed in one thing or another. It was a successful recovery. I wish it had been a successful rescue,” says Jennings.
He also issued condolences to the Robinson family during this difficult time. The coroner will now work to determine the cause of death.
