25 entries marched south down Main Street to 1st Street and went off to the east and dispersed from there. Mel Cook founded this annual event. The 22-year combat veteran wanted to make sure the celebration is always held on Veterans Day.
“Looking down the street and you see all the people on the side and all the people behind me and that’s all the best part. You’ve got your veterans, we’ve got World War II Veterans on up on down back here behind me. And, these people along side the road are here to honor them,” explained Veterans Day Parade founder Mel Cook.
“I have a lot of family that are veterans and so it’s really great that our city and our county comes out here to support them all by putting on a parade,” explained Miami student Kellsey Miner.
Several hundred people enjoyed today’s parade. Cook says they always have a big crowd no matter what the weather is like.
