Mercy hospitals are following a national trend to help new parents.
 
Mercy employees will now have the opportunity for paid leave when having children. Both mothers and fathers can use up to two weeks to focus on taking care of the new additions to the family, whether they are fostering or adopting. One Joplin Mercy employee is expecting soon, and is excited to spend more time with her newborn.
 
“I will be taking advantage of it. It’s a great opportunity. I think the first couple weeks with your baby is the most vital time, even if you’re adopting a child,” says Priscilla Simon.
 
The Family and Medical Leave Act requires all large employers to provide 12 weeks of unpaid leave, but the U.S. has no law requiring paid leave.
