Mental health risks linked to commonly prescribed antibiotics

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) - The Food and Drug Administration is warning some commonly prescribed antibiotics may cause mental health side effects and serious blood sugar disturbances.

The complications stem from drugs such as Levaquin, Cipro and Avelox; they're all part of a class of drugs known as 'Fluoroquinolones.'

Now, the FDA is requiring new safety labels warning of mental health risks like disorientation, nervousness and disturbances in attention, delirium, memory impairment and low blood sugar.

Additionally, a recent FDA review found some suffered instances of hypoglycemic coma.
