Northeast Tech – Afton is working to inform the community about the implications of medical marijuana in the workplace.
School officials say since State Question 788 legalizing medical marijuana was passed last year there have been many questions regarding how the state should proceed. So, to help businesses learn more about medical marijuana, the school held a lunch and learn session with local attorneys. Some of the topics covered included an overview of State Question 788 and the licensing requirements for patients and their caregivers.
“The impact on employment law because they are now a protected class of employees..the interaction between state and federal laws safety concerns because employers will be having employees who will be operating heavy equipment or driving vehicles,” says Joy Justice, Business Development Consultant Northeast Tech – Afton.
Justice adds as a large business and industry service division, they perform a lot of training, so it’s important to them to have cutting edge information on medical marijuana. In the future, Northeast Tech plans to hold a session on impairment recognition and crafting human resource policy on the subject.
