Masked intruder shoots firearm during burglary, suspect now in custody

Joplin Police responded to shooting at a home located at 1830 South Indiana around 4:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

The residents stated they heard someone kicking in the front door and a masked intruder entered the home. The intruder demanded money and then fired a gun before fleeing in a vehicle.

The residents identified the suspect by his voice as Bradley Powell, 21, who was an acquaintance of the victims. Officers then located Powell and the vehicle at 23rd and Wall in Joplin a short time later.

Powell was in possession of two handguns when police arrived. He was arrested for a misdemeanor Joplin warrant, burglary, attempted robbery, armed criminal action, and unlawful use of a weapon.

All charges are being submitted to the Jasper County Prosecutor’s Office at this time.
