Southern students also use their day off take part in the Martin Luther King Junior Day of Service.
MSSU senior Gregory Oliver spent part of the day at the Joplin Salvation Army. He volunteered in the kitchen helping to prepare lunch for those the organization serves. He says it’s the least he could do considering Dr. King gave his life trying to create a better country for all nationalities.
“Despite our differences, we can all come to a common ground eventually one day, and whether that’s tomorrow or today, I think it will make a difference,” says Oliver.
In addition to the Salvation Army, Southern students also had the chance to volunteer at Spring River Christian Village as well as the the MSSU Lion Co-Op.
